Packing or rope sealing is one of the traditional and widely used methods for sealing in pumps, valves and compressors. Packings are produced in the form of ropes or strips with a square or rectangular cross-section and are placed inside a chamber called a gland (Gland Box / Stuffing Box).
Their main function is to prevent fluid leakage and also protect the shaft and bearings from wear and contamination.

Layered packing or multi-layer packing is a type of industrial packing that is made from a combination of several different layers or strands with different materials.
Each layer has a different property (thermal, chemical or mechanical resistance) and together they make the packing last longer and have a more reliable seal in harsher conditions.
Layered packings have higher efficiency and life than conventional packings due to the use of several materials in one structure. This type of packing is an ideal option for heavy industries, corrosive environments and harsh working conditions. Choosing the right type and material of packing can have a direct impact on reducing leakage and increasing equipment productivity.
